Josh telugu movie review | Josh telugu movie Rating | Josh telugu movie Story

Film: Josh
Rating: 3/5

Banner: Sri Venkateswara Movies
Cast: Naga Chaitanya, Karthika, Prakashraj, J D Chekravarthy, Sunil, Brahmanandam, Hema, Surya, Sreya Dhanwantari, Anand and others
Music: Sandeep Chowta
Cinematography: Sameer Reddy
Director: Vasu Varma
Producer: Dil Raju
Released On: 5th Sep 2009

“Naaku mamoolugaa message lu ivvadam ishtam undadhu. Neeku emaina ichchanu anipisthey teesuko”. This is Naga Chaitanya’s dialogue in the movie. And indeed, the movie is message oriented. And as the dialogue suggests the youngsters can take the message if any, from the movie. Let us see how the whole thing went on.

Story:
Satya (Naga Chaitanya) is a young lad in Vizag who suddenly says to his parents that he wants to quit college studies and moves to Hyderabad in search of job. He finds a small job there but witnesses the spoiling students in a college. He tries to change them but in the process he develops tug with a student leader J Durga Rao (JD Chakravarthy). Satya finds no other way than joining in same college as a student to bring change in students, being one among them. Finally has Satya succeeds in that attempt? That forms the climax.

While this is one line, there is a flash back for Satya that makes him take decision to leave studies and move to Hyderabad. And a college Principal (Parakash Raj) happens to be key factor in that aspect. What’s that reason? That forms other line.

And Nitya (Karthika) happens to be a love factor for Satya who works in a school as teacher.

Performances:
Naga Chaitanya: He was given a very underplaying role. Most of the time he was seen without expressions. That gives a wrong impression for audiences that he doesn’t know how to act. His presence on screen as debutant is good. He danced well and fights are also good. From now he needs to focus on his dialogue delivery and expressions.

Karthika: She is just ok. The make up given to her is not good and that made her look very ordinary.

Sunil is ok with his subtle comedy and Prakash Raj performed to his best in his son’s dead body scene. Brahmanandam is very weak in his role and he couldn’t make people laugh even once. Former Miss Femina runner up Shreya Dhanwanthari is also scene in a not so important role.

Technically, the movie scores well with cinematography. Montages chosen for songs are hilarious. ‘Neeto unte inka konnaallu..’ has got lyrical beauty and ‘deerideeridi be ready…’ has haunting rendition.

Director Vasu Varma has dealt well only with his story line and narration but not with star son.

Dialogues:
“College paatam cheppi pareeksha peduthundi. Kaani jeevitham pareeksha petti paatam chebuthundi..gunapaatam” sounds subtle in entire movie.

Highlights And Dim Lights:
Cinematography is good
Costumes are subtle
Make up for heroine is very bad
Brahmanandam gone wasted
Jumps and abrupt cuts in editing
No required voltage in narration

Analysis:
The director seems to be very conscious of what he was making!

The dialogue “Naaku mamoolugaa message lu ivvadam ishtam undadhu. Neeku emaina ichchanu anipisthey teesuko” seems to be director’s line for contemporary youth audience.

It is a general opinion that youngsters don’t relish the messages and lectures. Hence the director has chosen that line. That’s fine up to that. But the elements that strengthen a movie are weak in this. There is no proper romance track, no action elements and no thrilling moments. It goes to be a straight narration with a little flash back episode.

The elements of ‘Shiva’ are used in the film to some extent but there is no comparison to that action-classic.

The movie appeals for teenagers and parents. The movie asks parents to leave sheep-mentality by going along with the herd and forcibly burdening children to get ranks in examination. The movie appeals for students stating that young age is a valuable time to build future but not for making it useless with drug addictions, irresponsibility and ragging.

On a whole, the movie has one and only big attraction- that is Naga Chaitanya, the son of Nagarjuna. And added glory is Dil Raju. Box office collections merely depend on these elements and they are the crowd pulling factors.

Andhra Pradesh CM dead in chopper crash

Prime Ministers Office declared on Thursday that Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy died in an air crash.

The helicopter carrying YSR Reddy, two of his staff and two pilots went missing in pouring rain Wednesday morning over the Naxal and tiger-infested Nalamalla forests.

Five bodies were been found at the site where Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy chopper’s wreckage has been traced.

The government on Thursday confirmed that Nearly 24 hours after YSR's chopper went missing, it was located atop Serai Salem hill, at a distance 40 nautical miles (70 kms) east of Kurnool.

The CM left Hyderabad on a six-seater Bell chopper at 8.35am for Chittoor accompanied by his secretary and chief security officer. After 9.27am, radio contact was lost with the helicopter.

Soon after the chopper lost contact, multiple agencies of the state launched a massive hunt for possible wreckage in the desolate terrain. By evening, it expanded into the country's biggest-ever search operation with satellites in the sky joining remote sensing aircraft, fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles, troops on the ground and even barefoot deer-hunting tribals with bows and arrows. YSR's tryst with rains

Hyderabad/Vijayawada: Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has always believed Lord Varuna, the rain god, would bail him out in times of crisis. But now, after showering his reign with five years of bountiful rains, the rains have put the life of YSR in peril.

In the last one month, YSR seemed hassled by the lack of rains but was ecstatic when the heavens opened up in the last 10 days. Indeed he had reason to believe so, with the state receiving rains all through the five years - 2004 to 2009 in his first term. Analysts surmise that rains had helped YSR to complete his first term without much trouble, unlike his predecessor Chandrababu Naidu.

“In fact, grassroots Congress workers started claiming that Lord Varuna has become a member of the Congress party because of which heavens keep opening up whenever YSR prays for rains to keep the state people happy,” an analyst said. After all, the drought that parched the state during Naidu’s regime ended just on the day of YSR’s swearing-in ceremony in 2004 in Hyderabad. Reservoirs and dams in the state brimmed with waters during his first five years in office. But YSR’s honeymoon with the rains nearly ended when the monsoon played truant from June till mid-August. So when the delayed monsoons led to drought-like conditions, and the state state government delayed the declaration of drought citing ‘other’ reasons, the Opposition said that it was all due to only YSR’s ego. But YSR’s hopes held ground and it began raining heavily all over the state in the last week of August.

In fact, YSR’s Rachchabanda (mass contact) programme was aimed at taking a first-hand account of the implementation of his welfare programmes and how the ryots are getting benefited from the recent rains. Ironically the man may have fallen prey to the rains when his chopper went missing.. Read rest of this Post..

Co-passengers shared CM's Cuddapah links

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy [ Images ], whose damaged helicopter was traced 40 nautical miles east of Kurnool on Thursday morning, was known as the 'Tiger of Cuddapah.'
A four-time member of the state legislative assembly from Pulivendla in Cuddapah, YSR was a doctor by profession with a degree from nearby Gulbarga University and practiced medicine for a while in Cuddapah district before opting for a career in politics.

Principal Secretary, Andhra Pradesh, Dr P Subrahmanyam, 56, and the chief minister's security officer A S C John Wesley, who were travelling with him aboard the ill-fated helicopter on Wednesday, also have connections with Cuddapah.

Subrahmanyam, an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1983 batch and has a post graduate degree in economics, was the collector of Cuddapah from 1992 to 1993 and from 1994 to 1995.

John Wesley retired as the deputy superintendent of police of Warangal. He had earlier been the district supply officer for Cuddapah in 2004. Read rest of this Post..

5 questions about the crash

As I write this, the news is that the helicopter carrying Y S Rajasekhara Reddy [ Images ], the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, his Principal Security Officer and a senior official of the Andhra Pradesh government, which went missing at 9.35 am on September 2, after having lost contact with airport control, has been located on the top of a hill near Kurnool.
While following media reports about the search for the missing helicopter, one mind's went back to April 9, 1992, when a Russian-built private plane (AN-26), carrying Yasser Arafat, the then head of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, crashlanded in the Libyan desert after getting caught in a sand-storm.

The plane was carrying Arafat from Sudan to Libya. Before-crash landing, the pilot of the aircraft informed the control tower with which he was in touch that he was crash-landing in the desert due to difficulties faced because of the sand-storm. Thereafter, all communications ceased with the aircraft as well as with Arafat's security officers.

The wreckage of the plane was spotted in the desert in southern Libya by a Libyan air force plane. Search parties were immediately sent out into the area. When one of the rescue teams reached the spot 12 hours after radio contact with the plane had been lost, it found 10 of the 13 members on board the plane, including Arafat, alive. The two Palestinian pilots of the aircraft and a technician were dead. Arafat had some bruises on his body and an injury on his forehead.

The cockpit was totally destroyed by the crash-landing, but the cabin in which Arafat and the others were seated received only minor damage. Arafat's security officers were not able to contact their headquarters and guide the rescue effort because all communication equipment on the aircraft had been destroyed by the crash and the communication sets of Arafat's security officers had stopped functioning.

Only after the rescue team reached Arafat was he able to talk to PLO headquarters.

In any enquiry into the mishap to YSR's helicopter, the following questions may have to be addressed:

Do the security rules on board VIP planes and helicopters require that the mobile phones of security officers will also be switched off as the other passengers are required to do?
If so, is there any independent means of communications with the security officers available in addition to the communication equipment of the plane or helicopter?
If not, how to ensure that the security officers have an independent and secure means of communications with their headquarters instead of having to depend on the equipment of the aircraft or helicopter?
What is the present communications protocol with the security officer or officers on board with the VIP?
Is there any need for revising it in the light of the experience with YSR's chopper? Read rest of this Post..

YSR faced chopper trouble earlier too

Y S Rajasekhara Reddy [ Images ] is no stranger to malfunctioning helicopters, it seems.
In November last year, too, he had a miraculous escape when the AW 139 helicopter he was returning from a trip to Mahbubnagar developed a major technical snag midair. It was the chopper's maiden flight, and had been acquired only recently. Travelling with the Andhra Pradesh chief minister where his his special secretary K Prabhakara Reddy and chief security officer Uday Kumar.

Everything seemed fine till chopper's electrical fuse started popping out, but the pilot, Capt M Jagan Mohan Raju, fixed it and continued the flight. The incident recurred in a few minutes, but did not cause any major hiccups to the 20-minute long flight.

Experts said this snag could have proved disastrous, and the chopper was grounded for a few days after the incident.

This time round, YSR flew by a Bell 430 helicopter, leading former Andhra DGP P Ramulu to question its use. According to him, the AW 139 helicopter is a much safer helicopter. Read rest of this Post..

Was YSR targeted by Maoists?

State police are keeping their fingers crossed as hours passed by since the disappearance of the helicopter which carried Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the Nallamala.

Reason: the sudden spurt of Maoist activities on the Chattisgarh border of Andhra Pradesh and also in Nallamala. Although the CMO and the state intelligence do not confirm it, the Maoist leader Mallojula Kotewar Rao alias Kishenji told a Telugu paper that “ We are not finished yet in Andhra Pradesh. " The CPI (Maoists) had all the reason to act against YSR, as they feel he had ditched them after initiating talks with Maoist leaders who came all the way out of the Nalllamala forests. Later the hard line approach which DGP Swaranjit Sen unleashed wiped out their base in Nallamala forests. The Maoists suffered huge losses and shifted their base out of the State to safe houses in Karntaka, Tamil Nadu, while the cadres fled to Chattisgarh.

Asked about why the CMO kept on feeding wrong information that the helicopter had been traced and that the CM was safe, an official spokesman said the government did not want the Maoists elements who might be still operative in the region to get wind of it and plan something against his life.

Police sources said they had kept track of all known Maoist elements in the city and also in districts and were watching their movements. “We don’t have any definite leads but we do see some activity,” said a source.

Some Congress leaders and close aides say YSR faced threat not only from the Maoist but also from his political conspirators. But they rule out any untoward thing. Read rest of this Post..

YSR News: Assumptions- CM Safe Or In Danger!

The assumptions surrounding YSR’s missing are growing minute by minute. Many say that he is still alive along with other four those traveled with him today (DCP John Wesley, IAS officer Subrahmanya, Pilot Bhatia and Co Pilot MS Reddy).

It is said that ‘Emergency Locating Transmitter’ in the helicopter gets activated as soon as it crashes. But so far it hasn’t got activated and sent no signal, which means the helicopter landed safely (this was said by defense officials). In that case, due to heavy rainfall in forest area, they got no other way to get down and walk or stay in the chopper itself. If they stayed inside the chopper for 13 hours where no signals are available, obviously there is no scope of contact with outside world. If they get down to find way or nearby village, they can hardly walk for 13 long hours in forest area while rainfall downpours.

An ex-naxalite who was well acquainted with Nallamala forest said that the forest is so cunning that it misleads the paths and brings the person to the place where he started walking a day ago. In that case, the YSR and Co are finding hard to find the way out. When asked if the chopper had got crashed amidst thick trees, he said that there are huge plains and plateaus in Nallamala area which can be easily seen through helicopter while landing.

“Only gray hounds can trace out the whereabouts of YSR only in day light”, added the ex-naxal leader.

While this is the positive news about the existence of YSR, a negative signal is also sounding with the information of fishermen stating that they have found a layer of oil on Neriganga waters near Srisailam in the afternoon followed by a huge noise at around 10 AM.

On the other hand the defense officials also said that if the chopper crashes in water body, the signals will automatically get cut and even the ‘Emergency Locating Transmitter’ also wouldn’t get activated.

The citizens of AP and Telugus living across the world are anxiously waiting to get update from time to time. Read rest of this Post..

Rains, not Maoists, major hurdle in YSR search-ops

Incessant rains, and not Maoists, is the major hurdle facing the security forces who have launched a massive search operation in the Nallamalla forests in Andhra Pradesh, where Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's [ Images ] helicopter went missing this morning, Andhra Pradesh police sources involved in the search operations have said.

Andhra Pradesh's anti-Naxal forces, known to be the best in the country, are also part of the search operations. They are very familiar with the terrain and have detailed knowledge of the area.

"It has been two and a half years since the Maoist threat has been neutralized in this region. There is no Maoist threat here. The only hurdle facing us now is the incessant rains," a senior officer who did not wish to be named told rediff.com.

The officer added that it will be dawn before they get a clear picture. "If the rains hold up, it would slow down the search parties. It will be morning by the time we have a clear picture," the officer said.

Nallamalla was recently in the news when a top Maoist leader surrendered there. Sambasivudu, widely understood to be the Maoist leader who had engineered a vicious attack on the then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu [ Images ] in Tirupati in 2003, surrendered to the police. While it was said Sambasivudu's deteriorating health forced him to surrender, there were also reports that some local leaders in Rayalaseema (the larger region in which the forests fall) brokered his surrender.

Thus, Maoist presence in the region cannot be totally ruled out, some experts feel.

But the police dismissed fears that either Maoists or landmines planted by them in the area will be a problem. Asked if there are fears that Maoists might attack search parties, the officer said, "There is absolutely no chance or fear of an attack. Nor is there a fear of landmines. As I said, only the weather, and the forest terrain, are our enemies," he said.

Other sources also agreed that the Maoists are not a threat in the jungles. A Chhattisgarh intelligence officer who has worked in tandem with the Andhra Pradesh police against Maoists said that the rebels are not a force in the forests of Nallamalla.

"Maoists are active in only about two northern districts and on the borders of Orissa and Chhattisgarh. The Nallamalla forests are more towards the borders of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the south. "Udhar toh AP police unko poora ka poora khatam hi kar diya (The AP police have annihilated the Maoists in the region)," he said.

Another purported worry for the rescue and search party was the alleged ability and designs of the Maoists to bring down choppers. But sources rule out that angle too.

"They have been trying to hit a chopper for a while now. The closest they have come till now was when they targeted a helicopter after polling in Bastar in November. But that was when it was taking off. We do not believe that they have the capability to hit a chopper in mid-air," an officer in the Bastar region, where the Maoists hit the chopper during the November assembly elections, said.

Meanwhile, National Security Advisor M K Narayanan on Wednesday appeared to completely rule out the possibility of Naxals bringing down the helicopter of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S R Reddy, saying the ultras did not have such a capability. He said it was quite possible that a technical snag or a pilot error could have led to the chopper going missing. "Naxal strike seems extremely improbable. I would almost entirely rule it out. I do not think the Naxalites [ Images ] have the capability to bring down the helicopter," Narayanan said. Read rest of this Post..

Sonia monitoring Reddy search operation

Congress party President Sonia Gandhi [ Images ] is personally monitoring the government's efforts to locate Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy [ Images ] whose helicopter went missing on Wednesday morning.
She met with Defence Minister A K Antony, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee [ Images ], her political secretary Ahmed Patel and others on Wednesday evening to take stock of the situation.

She has spoken to Dr Reddy's family and assured them that the government is doing everything in its power to locate the chief minister and the four others traveling with him.

Sources say the search operations in the state are being supervised by AP Finance Minister K Rosaiah, a senior Congress leader. Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily [ Images ], who is also the party general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh, and Prithviraj Chavan [ Images ], minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office, flew to Hyderabad on Wednesday night to help monitor the situation.

The central government has requested the US government to deploy its powerful satellites to locate the helicopter, which is believed to have landed in forests previously infested by Naxalites [ Images ] on whose hit-list Chief Minister Reddy features prominently.

Government sources say the Union home ministry is being cautious after the Mumbai [ Images ] attacks where the terrorists obtained information from the news television channels.

This time around, with Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram in charge, sources expect that the search and rescue operations will be conducted in a manner vastly different from what happened in Mumbai. Read rest of this Post..

ISRO aircraft sends first images from Nallamalla

The first images clicked by the manned aircraft of the Indian Space Research Organisation, sent earlier on Wednesday to find traces of the missing Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y S Rajashekhar Reddy in the Nallamalla forests, have been received and are being analysed by the National Remote Sensing Centre in Hyderabad, according to sources in ISRO.

However, neither sources in ISRO nor the Andhra Pradesh government were forthcoming on more information regarding the images that have been received through the manned aircraft.

"We are analyzing these images and only after that will we be able to say something concrete," sources in the ISO said.

Sources also added that the imaging by the manned aircraft may not be satisfactory in nature due to bad weather. This is why ISRO had decided to press into service its Radar Imaging Sattelite. ISRO says that the satellite would pass through the forest area early on Thursday morning. Images will be available only on Thursday and would be shared with the AP government first, they said.

There is an absolute need to use the Radar Imaging satellite since it is the only way to get a clear picture. The radar imaging satellite, according to ISRO, can provide images under all weather conditions. The bad weather would not be a hindrance for the satellite to send images to ISRO, they also added.

Further, this satellite can also detect metal and in case the chopper of the CM is stranded in the midst of the forest, the satellite could detect it easily. However, one needs to wait until Thursday morning in order to get the images, ISRO says.

However there is no word on whether NRSC would send its manned aircraft once again into the jungles to search for the CM. At present, NRSC operates two Beechcraft Super King Air B-200 aircraft.

These are pressurised twin turbo prop executive aircraft which have been modified to include standard wide angle and super wide angle cameras with multi spectral scanner system or aero magnetic sensor system, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and airborne Laser Terrain Mapping system with digital camera.

The aircraft is capable of carrying out aerial photographic surveys from ground height 400 feet to 30,000 feet. Photo scales from 1:4000 up to 1: 40,000 can be achieved. The data from Indian Remote Sensing Satellites are used for a variety of applications including natural resources monitoring and management.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has deployed a Sukhoi fighter jet with on-board radar for high resolution ground mapping to locate it.

The air-to-air refuelling will help the Sukhoi to continue its search for longer hours as the aircraft is capable of operating day and night. The Sukhois have an endurance level of three to four hours of continuous flying, but it could be enhanced to about 10 hours at a stretch with refuelling.

The IAF has set up an operations room for the search operation at Kurnool manned by its technical personnel from Bengaluru [ Images ] to coordinate all the flying in the absence of an Air Control Tower (ATC) in the vicinity.

The twin-engined Bell 430 AP helicopter with the 60-year-old chief minister on board took off at 8.45 am and was scheduled to land at Chitoor district at 10.45 am. However, it soon lost radio contact and has been untraceable.

The chopper is said to have landed in the middle of a thick forest, which is infested with Maoists. Read rest of this Post..

'Helicopter may have made safe landing'

The Andhra Pradesh Civil Aviation Corporation, which manages the two government-owned helicopters, has ruled out the possibility of the Bell 430 helicopter carrying state Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy [ Images ] having crashed.
Corporation Managing Director K V Brahmanand Reddy, in a statement issued in Hyderabad on Wednesday, said the helicopter was equipped with an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) capable of automatic transmission of its position. He said the ELT would have been activated in the event of a crash landing or any other unforeseen eventuality.

Reddy said one Dornier 228 twin engine aircraft, which is specifically equipped to pick up ELT frequency transmissions, was launched from the Indian Air Force base in Yelahanka, Karnataka, to search for the missing helicopter.

'The aircraft did not pick up any transmission in the target zone as identified from the last known transmission. As there is no indication of such an activation/pick up by satellite, we can expect no such eventuality. The likelihood of the helicopter having carried out a safe landing at some inaccessible location is highly probable,' Reddy said.

Rejecting doubts raised about the helicopter's airworthiness, the Corporation said it was fully airworthy. 'The Certificate of Airworthiness was issued by DGCA (the Directorate General of Civil Aviation) Hyderabad on 6.12.2008 with validity up to 5.12.2010,' Reddy added.

He said the helicopter's pilots Group Captain S K Bhatia and Captain M S Reddy are fully qualified, instrument rated and highly experienced. They have flown state government helicopters for the last three years.

'The aircraft got airborne with fuel adequate for three hours,' Reddy's statement noted. 'The aircraft last made contact at 0900 hours and indicated to be at a distance of 60 nautical miles from Shamshabad. The helicopter consequently made radio contact with Chennai Radio Control at 0902 hours. Thereafter, there has been no authenticated communication between the pilots and the passengers of the helicopter with any external agencies.'

Reddy said a command and control centre has been set up at Kurnool to coordinate all search activity. Air Commodore V S Bharati, commander of the IAF's Yelhanka base, awill be in charge of the operations. Read rest of this Post..

'Naxals did not shoot down the chopper'

Even as the nation awaits news about missing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy [ Images ], search operations are on a war footing.
The Indian Army [ Images ], Indian Air Force, Indian Space Research Organisation, Andhra Pradesh police are all involved in the search.

Union Home Secretary Gopal Krishna Pillai, who is monitoring the situation closely, told rediff.com's Vicky Nanjappa about the government's plans to do to find YSR.

Sir, it has been 11 hours and there is still no sign of Dr Reddy. Why is this search taking so long?

It is a difficult situation and the chopper -- according to the information that we have -- has gone missing in a very dense forest area. The weather is not too conducive to conduct a search operation. However, we are doing our best to find the chief minister.

How much more time do you think this operation would take?

I cannot say for sure. As I mentioned, it is a dense jungle and hence, operations are tough. If it were to be a mountainous terrain, I could have said for sure.

It is very difficult to say specifically when it is a jungle. All I can say is that we are hopeful of ending this search on a good note very soon.

How are the operations being conducted?

There is a huge ground force which is conducting the search operation. They are relying on locals also for information. They are not leaving any stone unturned. They are combing the forests every 100 square kilometres.

Since the search is so intense, it is taking time. Moreover, the weather conditions have not been favourable.

Which agencies are assisting the operation?

ISRO and the air force are involved in the search. I am confident that the help rendered by them will be of a lot of use. We are not taking any chances and are constantly in touch with the state agencies too.

There were claims earlier that some tribals had spotted the chopper and the search was coming to a close. What is your take on this?

A lot of tribals have spotted the chopper. However, no one has spotted it on the ground as yet. A lot many people have said that they had seen the chopper flying earlier this morning. However, there is nothing substantial to state that the chopper had touched the ground.

Had that been the case, the operation would have been completed soon. Yes, the agencies are taking the help of locals in the area to find the chief minister.

The forest is said to be infested with Naxalites [ Images ]. Is the government considering this angle or has it been ruled out completely?

I can say with confidence that the Naxals did not shoot down the chopper. At this point of time, I would rule out the Naxalite angle.

Why do you rule out the Naxalite angle?

Had there been an involvement by the Naxalites, we would have had some communication by now. Since there has been no communication, I can say that they may not be involved or behind this incident.

Missing Andhra CM's copter may not have crashed, says Chidambaram

Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram on Wednesday evening denied the possibility that the copter carrying Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister may have crashed and the search operation will remain on through out the night.

The search operation for the missing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister will remain on throughout the night on foot, Chidambaram was quoted to have stated by the Zee News channel.

Chidambaram refuted the possibility, as no signal from the Emergency locator transmitter had been received.

The Army Commandos, CRPF personnel will carry out the search through out the night. The Sukhoi-30 aircraft is also engaged in the operation at night as it is capable of taking images at night.

Meanwhile, former Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) M.L. Kumawat described the search operation of YSR as "the most intensive, comprehensive, multi-borne search operation ever launched in the country."

"It is a difficult terrain and will take some time," he added. Read rest of this Post..

No indication of YSR''s chopper crash landing: Rosaiah

A massive search operation is on in the Nallamalla forest area where Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy''s helicopter believed to have gone missing. The Indian Space Research Organisation captured 41 high resolution images of the territory where the chopper went missing and the data is now being analysed at the National Remote Sensing Agency at Balanagar here, State Finance Minister K Rosaish and Chief Secretary P Ramakant Reddy said.

While ground search operations are still on, five helicopters and one aircraft will be pressed into service early tomorrow morning to trace the missing helicopter, they told reporters tonight at the State Secretariat here. Hundreds of CRPF and State Commando Forces are conducting ground searches in the dense forest using powerful night vision devices.

IGP Rajiv Trivedi has been deputed to lead the ground search operations while both revenue and police machinery in Kurnool and neighbouring districts have been put on high alert. There is no indication of any crash landing because the helicopter equipped with an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) capable of automatic transmission of frequency would have become active in case of any crash landing or such other unforeseen eventuality, Rosaiah said. Air tragedies not new for political leaders

Tragedies have struck many air-borne political leaders even as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Reddy has been missing after the helicopter carrying him lost contact since morning today. Sanjay Gandhi was killed when the glider he was flying crashed at the Safdarjung airport in Delhi some 29 years back.

Madhavrao Scindia was killed in a plane crash on September 30, 2001, less than a decade ago when he was travelling to Kanpur for addressing a Congress rally. Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi died in a chopper crash on March 3, 2002 in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.

Haryana ministers O P Jindal and Surendra Singh were killed in a chopper crash a few years back. Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress President and Union Ministers Prithviraj Chauhan and Selja had a miraculous escape in 2004 when the rear portion of their chopper broke on landing at a helipad in Khanvel, a village in south Gujarat. YSR missing copter: second instance in Andhra Pradesh

Today''s instance of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy''s helicopter going missing is the second such case to happen in the dense forests of Andhra Pradesh since last year. On August 3, 2008, a private helicopter with its four crew members on board, went missing when it was flying to the thick Bastar forest area in Chhattisgarh.

About three months later parts of a helicopter were located in Pamanuru forest area in Andhra Pradesh. Police had then claimed the chopper might have crashed in Bastar due to low visibility following heavy rains.

The skeletal remains of the crew members were reportedly traced in Pamunur hills, about 230 km from Khammam, on the Andhra Pradesh-Chhattisgarh border. The chopper went missing after it took off from Hyderabad on its way to Raipur via Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh where it was expected to halt for refuelling.

The helicopter was booked by the Chhattisgarh government to pick up Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam from Raipur. Read rest of this Post..

YSR's fate uncertain, Sukhoi fighter, NRSA craft continue search

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's fate appeared uncertain Wednesday night, 12 hours after a helicopter carrying him went missing, even as a Sukhoi SU-30MKI combat jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and a low-flying aircraft of the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) began search operations that were expected to continue till late into the night.

The army, the air force and paramilitary forces, as also the police and civil authorities, were continuing the massive search operations through the night, even as the Indian government is trying to seek assistance from the US Defence Department to obtain real time satellite imagery of the area in which the helicopter is believed to have gone down.

After the search by eight helicopters was called off after sunset, the SU-30MKI combat joined the special NRSA aircraft in continuing the search through the night.

The SU-30 has night vision capabilities while the NRSA aircraft can fly at a height of 1.25 km and scam an area of 250 sq km at a time.

'Due to its better imagery and night vision capabilities, a Su-30 MKI has been pressed into service. It can look through the cloud and foliage cover in the area,' an IAF spokesman said in New Delhi.

'Four helicopters had been deployed today (Wednesday) for the rescue mission. The search has been called off due to bad light and the choppers will again hit the skies at first light tomorrow (Thursday),' the spokesman added.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary P. Ramakant Reddy told reporters in Hyderabad that the chief minister's helicopter was last seen by some villagers between 9.15 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. between Atmakur and Bandi Atmakur in Kurnool district. 'After 9.45 a.m. we lost radio contact. It is presumed that from Kurnool, it was crossing the Nallamalla forests towards Prakasam district,' he added.

He said the army had joined the search operations on the ground. About 5,000 paramilitary personnel were also heading towards the forests. Since Nallamalla is considered a Maoist stronghold, the elite Greyhounds anti-Maoist force, along with Andhra Pradesh special police and state police personnel are conducting the search operations.

The chopper carrying YSR, as the 60-year-old chief minister is known, his special secretary Subrahmanyam, his chief security officer A.S.C. Wesley and two pilots, took off 8.35 am from Hyderabad and was headed for Chittoor, 588 km away and close to Tamil Nadu.

'Let us hope for the best. Let us pray for the best,' Home Minister P. Chidambaram said in New Delhi of the rescue operations.

A sombre Chidamabaram said the search by the IAF was called off late in the evening 'because of the weather and failing light' but said the manual search for the chopper would go on 'at least for a few hours' before resuming at first light.

Forest and revenue department officials had conducted searches in Kurnool district, Chidambaram said, adding: 'We are keeping our fingers crossed. The police and paramilitary forces are moving towards that point... Perhaps they would be able to do a search for a couple of hours at least, then we will have to wait first light tomorrow.'

Even as rescuers combed the forest range, officials reluctantly admitted that the missing helicopter had not renewed its airworthiness certificate for two years. Experts denounced the shocking revelation.

President Pratibha Patil, now in Moscow, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi expressed concern over YSR's fate.

His disappearance has caused concern in the Congress, where YSR is highly regarded both for his administrative acumen and political skills. He is also credited with crushing the Maoist movement in Andhra Pradesh, a long-time ultra-Left bastion.

In a sign of desperation, chief secretary Ramakant Reddy urged anyone who got to know anything to contact the police.

'So far we have not been able to get any confirmation (about the chief minister). It is possible that because of the strong winds and heavy rains, it (the helicopter) may have landed in some unfamiliar area,' Ramakant Reddy said, adding: 'If you land in an unfamiliar forested area, getting out will be very difficult.'

He urged people living in the forested region to 'kindly help us. If you get any signal, any reliable information, contact the nearest police station'.

With no word on YSR's whereabouts, thousands of emotive supporters gathered at the Congress office in Hyderabad. Scores prayed for his safety in temples, mosques and churches in the state.

At the state secretariat, the crowds shouted: 'Long live YSR' and termed him a friend of the poor. Security personnel had a tough time controlling the crowds.

A doctor by training, YSR is one of the most influential leaders in the Congress after again leading the party to a spectacular win in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections in April-May this year.

Elected to the state assembly for the fifth time, YSR is also a four-time Lok Sabha MP and holds the record of never losing an election. He is the first Congress chief minister to rule Andhra Pradesh for five years and then retain office. Read rest of this Post..

Sonia Gandhi sends Moily, Prithviraj Chauhan to monitor Andhra CM search

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked Union Law Minister and general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh Veerappa Moily and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chauhan to rush to Hyderabad to oversee the search and rescue operations for missing state Chief Minister Y.S. Rajshekhar Reddy.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has also joined in the search operation. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said that he has advised the Andhra Pradesh Government to conduct a ground search for Reddy through the night. Aerial search has been called off.

The Indian Air Force has deployed Sukhoi 30 fighter jets to conduct an air sweep of the area where the chief minister's chopper is said to have landed due to inclement weather.

The decision to send Moily and Chauhan comes as the State Government sources said the CRPF, the Army and Special Forces would conduct their search on foot through the night till the chief minister is traced.

The defence personnel would move along the same route that the chief minister took, notwithstanding the inclement weather.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has separately set up 14 teams, each consisting of eight members (112 personnel), to search for Reddy.

Local villagers have also been provided with torches and other equipment to help in the search of an area that is dominated by Naxals.

The State Government has also asked the Central Government to provide it with an unmanned aircraft and all-weather Fokker aircraft for the search operation in the Nanamalla and Seer Sailam forest ranges.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has denied that the seven-seater Bell chopper was not air worthy. It said that the outdated certificate that a private channel accessed appeared on the DGCA web site. The DGCA says the copter is air worthy.

The State Government has also said that it will be giving a fresh update on the situation at 7 p.m.

The State Government said that bad weather, time constraints plus the dense forested area where the chopper may have landed is hampering rescue operations. It appealed to the general public to step in and help in the rescue operations along with the Indian Air Force and the Army.

The Congress party on Wednesday held an emergency press briefing here on the issue.

Party spokesman Manish Tewari told media persons that it is an evolving situation that is being closely monitored by the Central and State Governments, besides the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The party said that state government is handling a very sensitive situation as the copter is said to have landed somewhere in the forests between the three districts of Rayalseema, Prakasham and Chitoor.

Tewari said that every effort was being made to resolve the situation as quickly as possible given the limited time available. He said that four Indian Air Force helicopters, one MI8 and a Dhruv chopper have been pressed into the rescue operation.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister K.Rosiah confirmed that the chopper carrying the Chief Minister had landed in a forest area and efforts were on to locate it.

Addressing a news conference in Hyderabad, Rosiah said: "All state and central forces are on alert. At the moment, we are still tracing the location of the missing chopper, which has landed in the forests in the Chitoor-Nellore area. We are finding a way to reach the place."

Rosiah said the state government has alerted the Union Home Ministry about the missing chopper. He said that after 9.35 a.m., contact had been lost with the chopper carrying the chief minister.

Rosiah said that the Prime Minister's office as well as the offices of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Defence Minister A.K. Antony are being kept posted about the latest developments.

He also issued an appeal to the public to contribute to the search effort.

Rosiah's briefing came as Andhra Pradesh Police continues their search for the missing chopper.

Panic was created around Wednesday noon as Reddy was reported untraceable for nearly four hours.

Reddy was on his way to Chitoor, by chopper which initial reports said had made an emergency landing near Kurnool due to inclement weather.

The chopper took off at 8.45 a.m. for Chitoor and was scheduled to arrive here at 10.45 a.m, sources said.

The chopper was said to have landed in the middle of a thick forest, said to be affected by Maoist activities.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) confirmed receiving a message of the emergency landing of the chopper, but nothing thereafter.

Till now, no one has confirmed the movements of Reddy.

The Union Home Ministry is monitoring the search operations, as Kurnool is a Naxal affected area.

Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources said the chopper went off the radar due to heavy rains.

The CMO maintains there is no need to worry as the area has no mobile connectivity. Read rest of this Post..

Air search operation called off due to bad weather: K.Rosiah

State Finance Minister K.Rosiah on Wednesday said that the air operation had been called off due to inclement weather and less visibility.

"The air-search operations would begin by 6.00 to 6.30 on Thursday morning," said State Finance Minister K.Rosiah.

"The team from ISRO's low-flying aircraft has been landed in Hyderabad. They have taken about 40 images of Nallamali area. They have been analysed at the National Remote Sensing laboratory in Hyderabad. The results are expected by 11.30 tonight," said State Government Secretary Ramakant Reddy at the conference.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, Congress party's core committee will hold a meeting do discuss developments related to Andhra CM's missing incident. (ANI) Read rest of this Post..
